Good review, but you mistook the names of the first and third children: Lao Ta was the elder and Lao San (san means three) the younger.

This is best book I would ever read too.

I’m presently reading this book and am almost finished. I don’t like it as much as Good Earth or Imperial Woman, both of which I highly recommend, but I admire the character development. For me, this book is about how war changes the hearts of individuals.

The description in the beginning of the household settling down at night is one of the most beautiful I have read, and is startling in contrast to later situations arising in the book.

@NS – The book is sure a gr8 one. But, I’m not sure you’ll find it in Delhi. At least, when I tried, I did not. I Had to get it shipped from Amazon.com. You could borrow it from me in case you want to read.
