Zinda
Saw this movie Zinda last night. People were chopping off arms, tooth and other body parts like vegetables. Though, Zinda spared us of blood-fountains that were shown in kill bill, blood and gore was not much different .Ok-ish start. But, by interval, we started cursing this guy who wanted to watch “Zinda” when the original choice was – “In her shoes”.
The story. If I’m allowed to fast forward, a couple and their friend are celebrating the couple’s anniversary in a restaurant. The lady (part of the couple) goes to Bala (her husband, Sanjay Dutt) to tell him that she is pregnant but, Bala is missing. He is locked up in a room for 14 years by someone. He is provided with a TV, stationary, a good bed, a soft pillow with black satin pillow cover and a monitor-camera. Periodically, he is made unconscious with some gas and then, beauty and house keeping services are provided. Then, he discovers it is John Abraham, blah blah blah – only part worth mentioning is – John Abraham looked aaassum.
Here is the part of the story that needs dinosaurs’ enzymes to digest – Why did Rahul Kapoor (John Abraham) keep him locked for so long? – A Story of revenge. In high school, Bala lies to his friends that he slept with Rahul’s sis to win a bet. She is teased / humiliated and the gal commits suicide. There is more, Bala apparently has a gal-child; remember his wife was preg! – and Rahul Kills Bala’s wife when the child (Reema) is 1 year old. Rahul puts this gal up for auction at a pub when she turns 14 – the age when Rahul’s sister died (Whew!!) and finally when Bala goes to rescue her, there is nothing to rescue – this was a prank by Rahul- ha ha! Seriously, what was this prank in the middle of a story that the director believed was serious! Btw, Rahul dies, Father and child unite – “papa..”, “beti…” . Forgot to mention, there is a parallel love-story running between one female taxi driver and Bala ( he needs a taxi to go around the city. rite? That’s the connection).
There is one nice business opportunity that the flick introduced. Bala’s 14 years of lock-up was outsourced to an agency that specializes in this. The agency charges on the basis of services. “Daily torture karna hai toe, uska extra!”. I was wondering how they take care of marketing…
If you hate a friend whoz into software, tell him the movie is about fundoo hacking and all.
Note to self: When you think about questions of death, happiness, soul, etc, the concerns of career, pay-raise, etc contract down to trivial things. So, next time you are unhappy with work, think of bigger things in life.

Why did Rahul Kapoor (John Abraham) keep him locked for so long? )
May be it was his version of a life sentence.
And probably the prank wasn’t just a prank, but a way to see the pain, the fear in Bala’s eyes.
